The World Peace Sanctuary is part of a global movement dedicated to spreading the message of peace through community action, ceremony, and shared intention, most visibly through the placement of Peace Poles around the world. The Peace Pole was first created in Japan in 1955 by Masahisa Goi in the aftermath of World War II, bearing the universal prayer “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages. Since then, more than 475,000 Peace Poles have been installed in countries across the globe at sites of cultural, spiritual, and historical significance. Through Peace Pole Dedications and Ceremonies, communities gather in reflection and unity, and once dedicated, each Peace Pole becomes part of the United Nations Peace Pole Interactive Map, linking local acts of peace to a worldwide network.

Some of the most symbolically important Peace Pole locations include the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, the Mount Fuji World Peace Sanctuary, the United Nations Office in Geneva, the Vienna International Centre, as well as the North Pole and South Pole, representing peace beyond borders, politics, and geography. In addition to these iconic sites, tens of thousands of Peace Poles have been placed at schools, parks, city halls, houses of worship, cultural centers, private gardens, and community spaces worldwide, uniting people everywhere through the shared prayer: May Peace Prevail on Earth.

The Peace Pole movement has been supported and inspired by global leaders and peace advocates, including Masahisa Goi, founder of the movement; Mitsuo Hashimoto, longtime Director of The Peace Pole Project (USA); Jane Goodall, whose Roots & Shoots and peace initiatives align closely with the Peace Pole message; His Holiness the Dalai Lama; His Holiness the Pope; and U Thant, former Secretary-General of the United Nations. United Nations ambassadors, diplomats, and world leaders have also participated in Peace Pole ceremonies around the world, reflecting the movement’s unique ability to bridge grassroots community action with global leadership.

Jami has been honored to assist—and continues to assist—with identifying Peace Pole locations and working with teams to implement Peace Pole ceremonies and dedications, supporting the mission at both local and global levels. Continuing this work, a special project planned for 2026 will spread the message of peace throughout the Hudson Valley through the gifting of 85 Peace Poles to communities, organizations, and public spaces.
